Geography

Based on its physiography, Elamkulam Grama Panchayat, which falls within the midland region, can be broadly divided into seven categories: mountainous areas, steep slopes, valleys, elevated plateaus, gentle slopes, plains, and waterlogged areas. The hilltops, slopes, and elevated plateaus contain abundant deposits of laterite and granite rocks. Clay soil is predominantly found in the paddy fields located in the plains. Surrounded by rivers on three sides and hills on one side, the village was historically dependent mainly on agriculture and allied occupations for the livelihood of its people. The major crops cultivated in the Panchayat today include paddy, coconut, arecanut, rubber, banana, tapioca, black pepper, and various vegetables. The Kunthipuzha River, five public ponds, and numerous streams constitute the major water resources of the Panchayat. Chelamala, Kottaparambu, and Perumbarambu are the major hills in the Panchayat. The Ramanchadi Canal, under the Minor Irrigation Department, is essential for the sustenance and development of the agricultural sector in this region.
